Fall and Winter Jewelry Trends 2009

Unlike past seasons where minimalist clothes demanded that one goes sans jewelry, this seasons looks are best highlighted with statement pieces. Timeless pieces that turn heads and go with simple clothes in black, or rich colors. Hey, you can even wear with spring and summer’s lightweight dresses to add oomph to your look.

Jewelry with movement and texture are very in. Lots of jingly bangles are making a sexy statement, too, and a stack of them makes a lovely bridesmaid gift.

Interesting trends in jewelry metals have made their way from Europe to the States. Soft and pretty rose gold is catching on here, and brings a blushing glow to bridal jewelry. And from Italy, the next evolution is a new gold alloy in a warm brown shade called “chocolate gold.” Cutting-edge and breathtaking, this cocoa jewelry makes a striking backdrop to colors, and adds a burnished dimension to wedding whites and creams. There are even cultured chocolate pearls to match!—simply yummy!

Forget dainty and delicate—today’s jewelry is getting larger, with fresh combos and bold new presentations. Here’s a snapshot of what’s in store for the year ahead:

1. Trend #1 Stunning Necklaces

The best thing about these imitations is that they are very affordable. You could dress like a millionairess even if you are on a tight budget. Just accessorize your new gown or little black dress with an absolutely stunning necklace

Crystals are everywhere in the full spectrum of color. What better way to bring life to a structured dress with little detail than to accessorize it with brightly colored rocks. Especially dazzling stones around your neck.

2. Trend #2 Cuff Bracelets

Cuff bracelets are statement jewels that turn a simple sheathe into a stunning outfit. Your little black sleeveless dress or strapless gown looks even more amazing with the addition of a single cuff bracelet. They are timeless classics that are hot every season, which makes them excellent investments.

One statement accessory is enough. A small collection of statement jewelry is all you need to create your signature look. Wear one item at a time with your favorite dress. A change of accessories freshens your look instantly.

Now is the time to collect statement jewelry to create your signature look. Take advantage of this season’s offerings to build up your jewelry wardrobe.

Call Carrie at Hammi Jammi Jewelry and she will be able to help you create some signature pieces for you and your bridesmaids.

Tips to save while planning your wedding

The average cost of a wedding today is over $28,500. In today’s economy this can be very tough on couples. Fortunately there are many ways to save on your wedding and your guests won’t even realize it!

One way to save is to use an RSVP postcard instead of a full card. This will not only save on paper cost but also on mailing cost. Better yet you can use a wedding website for guests to RSVP to.
Another way to save is to include the directions to the ceremony and reception on your wedding website rather than printing an extra direction card. And if the ceremony and reception are at the same location you can skip the reception card and note “reception to follow” on the invitation. Even if they are in different locations you can note “reception to follow at The Hamilton Ballroom.”
For the envelopes, skip the lined envelope. Most people won’t even notice this little detail. And use just one envelope instead of two (traditionally people used an inner and outer envelope to protect the invitations but with the improved postal service this isn’t needed).
Also skip the bows and other embellishments on the invitations. And make sure to proof read and have multiple people proof read everything before sending to the printer in order to avoid having to reorder! This sounds like common sense but you’d be surprised how often it happens!

When choosing your bouquets use larger, fuller flowers (such as hydrangeas instead of roses). The larger and fuller the flower, the less you will need. Also use more greens in the bouquets.

By using locally grown flowers this will save you money and they will also be fresher. If you’re not set on a specific flower you can allow your florist to buy at local markets. And have the florist stick to flowers that are in season.
Finally, use flowers at both the ceremony and reception to help save on costs.

For the groomʼs tux find a rental place that offers a free tux for the groom with the rental of tuxes for the groomsmen.
For the bride many salons have sample sales to clear room for new styles coming in.
Check with local bridal salons to see if they have sales coming up.

Guest List:
By cutting down the guest list this will save money over several categories. Youʼll need less food, less favors, less centerpieces, and less invitations! Have two lists: list A for those you must invite, and list B for those youʼd like to. As those from list A decline you can move up those from list B. Also, if you have to think a lot about whether to invite a specific person...this probably means you donʼt need to invite them!
Couples often stress about the guest list the most. They worry that people will be upset if they are not invited. Just explain to people that due to budget you are limiting the guest list to close family and friends. Or you can explain to your coworkers that since you both have large families you will be limiting the list.

The ceremony location is not usually a large cost but there are still ways to save on the decor. If you get married around Easter at a church most likely the church will be decorated with flowers which will save you that expense. Also, if you get married
outdoors you really donʼt need to add any decor.

High Street Yoga Celebrates One Year!

Yoga is the practice of finding tranquility through the union of mind, body and spirit. So it’s fitting that High Street Yoga, 141 E. High St., has spent the last year stretching that definition to include not only people who practice yoga, but also by embracing the community as a whole.
“I think that I wanted to make this a place of community,” said High Street Yoga instructor/director Barbara Kosciewicz. “The idea of yoga in general is to open yourself and so it seemed natural to extend that to others, too.”
To illustrate that, in the year since it opened, High Street Yoga has collected donations for the North Coventry food pantry, held a Toys for Tots Toy drive and offered a special monthly Kid Yoga class for local Moms Clubs as well as Moms Night Outs.
Kosciewicz has been practicing yoga for a decade and has spent the last six years teaching. She jumped at the chance to create High Street Yoga a year ago, in a space that had previously been used for storage above the Academy of Massage & Bodyworks.
“I was a student at the Academy,” Kosciewicz said. “The room was used for storage and Angela (Wagner) and Jim (Funk, directors of the Academy of Massage) asked me if I wanted to help them get a yoga studio started.”
So the space was cleaned out, painted and turned into a room that is warm and tranquil. The soothing yellow walls are appointed with wall hangings and a large “om” symbol, and the space is large enough to allow participants to spread out and relax.
This is the whole point of yoga.
“People don’t take any time for themselves,” Kosciewicz said. “You may read a book or take a bath. But yoga really gives people an hour to relax. It’s really slowing down the mind and slowing down the body and letting yourself completely take care of you. You can completely surrender and completely relax. That’s my focus.”
And because that’s her focus Kosciewicz designs her classes for all levels of experience.
“People say that they’re not flexible,” she said. “But you don’t need to be flexible to begin yoga. Just come exactly as you are. I give modifications for every situation. If you’re pregnant or injured I can modify the postures to what is comfortable for you. Everyone in class looks different because yoga is all about you as an individual and where you are physically.”
A typical class includes breath awareness, centering/meditation, clearly explained asana (the physical postures) and Savasana – the final relaxation. In addition, Kosciewicz will often add some extras to the class and during the past year has offered candle light yoga with live music, a Valentine’s Day Special that added foot soaks, chair massage and tea to the yoga class and a holiday stress buster series.
Continuing the plan to give back to the community, High Street Yoga will celebrate its first birthday by offering half-price classes to anyone who brings a donation for the North Coventry Food Pantry during the first two weeks of October. Each donation also qualifies the giver to raffles and special giveaways.
Classes normally cost $12 each and are offered Tuesday 7 to 8:15 p.m. and Wednesday 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Packages are available and drop-ins are welcome.

Winter Wedding Trends

The winter of 2009 is a great time to have a wedding; there are many different styles to choose from to make your winter wedding memorable! This post will take a look at 5 different trends for 2009 and tell you how to incorporate them into your winter wedding.

1. Color Trends

The color trends this winter do not emulate from the normal festive green and red Christmas colors. Stick to traditional whites and silvers for an elegant winter style wedding dress and décor; if you want to get creative trying a deep purple to lighter lavender are good ways to spice up the color scheme without looking cliché. Winter wedding color trends should be a mix of darker rich colors that are not seen during a summer wedding; deep black suits with a matching shirt is a must for men.

This bridesmaid necklace from Hammi Jammi Jewelry is the perfect touch to add shades of purple into your wedding...and it's shimmery too:

2. Transportation

Transportation for winter weddings of 2009 is all about exotic cars, limousines, or large SUV limousines, such as the H2 stretch hummer. The "Limo" Company #1 in Chester Springs, PA is the perfect choice for your limo and town car needs. Mary Jo is professional and will really go the extra mile (literally) to make you the most important couple! Horse drawn carriages are another top choice for winter weddings this year; they are clean on the environment and provide classic winter elegance for the wedding party. Eco friendly themes are starting to take rout in wedding themes, if this is the case try renting or purchasing a hybrid vehicle or using smaller transportation.

3. Music

Classical music as well as a live pianist is becoming fast popular trends for winter 2009 weddings. The live music at the reception adds a more sophisticated feel than using a DJ; live singers are also great for providing that lively feel to the wedding. If the wedding theme is elegance then you should stick to the classical piano or classical music and jazz; however you can also incorporate some popular songs into the mix for dancing.

4. Centerpieces

This winter there are a few choices for centerpieces including the classic glowing candle with festive themed centerpiece. Low lighting receptions will magnify the center candles; another great option is having ice sculpture centerpieces such as vases. The only problem with ice carvings is they do melt, and can be very expensive.

5. Bouquet

This winter roses are still the top pick for winter weddings; white and red roses are the most popular for winter 2009. Red roses are a great way to continue the elegant appeal of a winter wedding; they are best since they add bright vibrant color to contrast the winter theme.

Celebrate the Journey

10% off 1 Hour Massage

12 years ago my husband and I were married in his hometown in the Netherlands. Returning from a family vacation to Holland I had time to reflect on our special day; Driving by town hall where we were married legally first in a small ceremony before heading to the church, picking out flowers, and our cake and biking past the inn where we spent the night of our wedding. These moments were wonderful to relive and reminded me of why I love working with brides and sharing in a small way, part of their wedding planning.
It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of the details. Take time for yourself during the planning process. Enjoy each moment from the small details to the large. Reflect on your special day and the days leading up to it with joy! Take time for yourself and schedule a massage that is pampering and therapeutic. Respond to this special and receive 10% off a 1 hour massage.

Half Price Class

The practice of yoga has affected me profoundly on many levels, physically, spiritually and emotionally. I find sheer joy passing on what I’ve learned to others. As you begin the journey of planning your wedding and moving on to the next chapter of your life, consider yoga as a tool to calm your nerves, look inward and slow down, not to mention the amazing physical benefits of the practice that will help you look great in the dress!

I began my own practice doing videos in my living room before I was ‘brave’ enough to head out the door and to a class. I worried I wasn’t doing it ‘right’ After practicing yoga for close to 10 years I now know there is no ‘right’

Step out of your comfort zone and living room and try yoga with a friend. This month share the blissful experience of yoga with a friend or family member. Ease any discomfort of trying a new practice by having your closest girlfriend or family member by your side. Bring a friend to class and both receive a ½ price class. Begin your journey by honoring your self.

Here are a few words from some happy yogis:

"I enjoyed the class so much. I kept thinking about how nice it was to be doing something just for me . And at the end, when we all said 'Namaste', I thought I was going to cry. I thought I would be sore today, but I'm not."

"I am so happy that this studio is available locally at such a reasonable price. Both Barbara and Trish are awesome! I leave there feeling totally relaxed - love it!"

"The High Street Yoga & Wellness Center is wonderful! I tried yoga for the first time about a month ago & Barbara made my experience very easy. I felt an amazing sense of peace when I left the class. I love their commitment to community--they did a food drive for the food pantry & now for the holidays, they are doing a toy drive. I went to their Thanksgiving morning session & it was a wonderful way to start the day focusing on what matters most in my life. I'm looking forward to another visit during the holiday season! If you've always wondered what yoga is about, this is the place to try--very welcoming & willing to answer your yoga questions."

"I have never had a bad yoga session at this studio. The classes are perfect for restoring the mind, body, and soul. The studio has great atmosphere to be calm and serene and mindful of the practice. I recommend this studio to anyone who practices yoga already or to anyone who would like to begin a practice. Namaste."

"Having tried several yoga classes in the area, I can say without "stretching" the truth, that Barb's classes are terrific! Her voice is calming, soothing- she takes you right where you need to go to feel that you've conquered your day, brought tranquility to your life, and can peacefully face the world! Enjoy!"

Collegeville Times Herald

Yipppeee! We got some AWESOME press:

The Whole Package
You could say that five designing women were thinking outside the box when they came up with the idea of packaging their talents inside a box.

Specifically, “A Wedding in a Box.”

The friends’ services and products — custom jewelry, honeymoon planning, photography, makeup consulting and yoga/massage — don’t literally come packed in a box, of course.

But for the time and frustration the one-stop shopping can save, the concept itself might seem like it’s gift-wrapped and tied with a bow to a detail-oriented bride-to-be.

“It all has to do with branding,” said Carrie Grabowicz, the jewelry crafter of the group.

“We do give out a jewelry-size bracelet type box that has our cards inside explaining all about our services. So everyone sort of can remember us as ‘those box people.’ The idea just makes it all easier for brides, with everything in one place, neatly packaged up for you.”

The idea for A Wedding in a Box evolved from the successful businesses of the five women, who found that the synergy of collaborating ultimately enhanced the experience for the entire bridal party, Grabowicz noted.

“Brides can benefit from our combined expertise. We combine our talents and treat brides the way they should be treated, with custom and personal touches that are top notch.”

The partnership helps each of the A Wedding in a Box businesses grow independently as well, she added.

“We’re all separate entities and function separately,” Grabowicz said. “ But ‘A Wedding in a Box’ is a way to have five people promoting you, working together and trying to offer you the best.”

Should photographer Melia Rios-Lazo’s display at The Court at King of Prussia, promoting her own business, Priceless Moments, drum up some new clients for her, it could well bring some of those wedding dollars to the other partners’ endeavors as well.

“Everything we offer can also be purchased a la carte,” Grabowicz pointed out. “So people aren’t obligated to take everything we offer.”

With Hammi Jammi Jewelry, Grabowicz creates brooches and other pieces of “wearable art” from sterling silver, copper and even domino tiles.

“My company name comes from a name I gave my kids when they’re acting goofy,” she said, laughing. “I customize everything according to what the bride wants, like earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Many brides tend to wear pearls, but sometimes they may want something a little more bold, like a ruby color.”

The jewelry items can be for the bride herself, or for the bridesmaids to wear the day of the wedding, Grabowicz said.

Squaring off “A Wedding in a Box” enticements are stress-relieving yoga and massage by therapist Barbara Kosciewicz, who tends to both “the bodies and minds of the wedding party,” makeup and skin care attention by Clare Herkendaal of Arbonne and honeymoon possibilities offered by CruiseOne’s Danielle Weber.

Though most of the women live in Pottstown, they are all “very mobile” and available to present a mini bridal show throughout the area, Grabowicz said.

“A bride and her attendants can have a massage, try on make-up, enjoy a high fashion photography session, learn about honeymoon destinations, try on some one-of-a-kind jewelry ... while enjoying camaraderie with friends — and some chocolate.”

Wedding Photography: Capture the PRICELESS MOMENTS

....if you're a bride who wants her wedding to be PERFECT, and the most romantic, beautiful and emotional day of your life; if you want to enjoy every minute of your day; if you want to be the most ravishingly beautiful bride your friends and relatives have ever seen; if you want to spend wonderful, quality time with your guests; if you want to remember with happy tears in your eyes all the love, emotion and joys of the day....
